Gilbert Farms is maximizing yield potential by analyzing the specific soil type of every acre on every farm.

Soil testing ensures that the appropriate nutrients can be put in the right place to help the crop reach its maximum potential. To achieve this balance of nutrients, we use Variable Rate Technology to spread the fertilizer and lime on a farm.

In order to correctly diagnose what a particular field may be lacking, soil samples are taken across the field. Specifically, every 2.5 acres a sample or plug, is taken from the ground. Within this sample, we have is contents micro-analyzed which will produce a wealth of knowledge.

For grain production, we specifically monitor the nutrient levels of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K), as well as the pH level of the soil. This information is compiled into a “map” which details the nutrient needs of a field.

This vital soil-mapping technique becomes a farm-specific nutrient map, which allows for the appropriate application of nutrients precisely where they will be needed.

Applying the appropriate nutrients to the soil allows for maximum yield production, therefore maintaining the landowner’s farm fertility.

Landowner’s are provided a booklet detailing the specific nutrient needs of their farm.
